Dr. Lawrence Huff performing a unique, innovative shoulder-sparing procedure

Lawrence R. Huff, M.D., fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon at Desert Orthopaedic Center, now offers the rare and innovative superior capsular reconstruction (SCR) procedure, an arthroscopic procedure that restores function in patients who have suffered from an irreparable rotator cuff tear. He is performing this procedure at the Desert Orthopaedic Center Surgery Center, located at 2800 East Desert Inn Road, Suite 150. Patients in need of specialized shoulder care can make an appointment with Dr. Huff by calling (702) 731-1616.

Traditionally, patients who suffered from an irreparable rotator cuff tear would undergo a reverse total shoulder replacement; however, patients who are not ideal candidates for a reverse total shoulder replacement had a limited number of options to restore the function and regain the ability to raise the affected arm. Using SCR, Dr. Huff uses donor tissue to restore the position of the shoulder, reducing pain and restoring function.

“Desert Orthopaedic Center is dedicated to offering our patients the most advanced and state-of-the-art treatments and procedures, such as this. We are proud to offer this new innovative option to our patients who are looking for an answer to a previously unsolvable problem,” says Dr. Huff. “Seeing patients regain function in their arm and shoulder when they have been told this is an irreparable injury is the greatest feeling in the world!”
