Extremity CT Scan

  • This procedure combines X-ray energy with computer technology to create cross-sectional images.

A CT scan (computed tomography scan) is a powerful diagnostic imaging tool that uses X-ray energy combined with computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. It allows your provider to evaluate bones, joints, and surrounding soft tissues with exceptional clarity.

At Desert Orthopaedic Center, we use the HiRise Weight-Bearing CT scanner—a major advancement over traditional CT imaging. Unlike standard non–weight-bearing scans, the HiRise captures images while you’re standing, allowing your joints and bones to be assessed in their natural, functional position under the load of your body weight. This provides a far more accurate view of alignment, joint spacing, and bone structure—crucial for diagnosing complex conditions and planning surgical procedures with precision.

Additional benefits of the HiRise system include:

  • More accurate diagnoses for weight-bearing joints like the ankles, knees, and hips
  • Improved surgical planning through real-time functional imaging
  • Comfort-focused design, with a large bore opening to accommodate upright positioning and reduce claustrophobia

Our CT services are offered at our Central office, home to the only weight-bearing CT scanner in southern Nevada.
