My Comeback Story: Bob B.

My Achilles Tendon Surgery and Journey to Recovery

In late December of 2022 I was on a morning hike and light jog in the northwest foothills of Las Vegas. I had an untreated and large heel spur that fractured when my foot slipped on a rock. When it fractured my achilles tendon tore from the heel with the spur and was hanging in my calf area. I had significant bruising, swelling and significant and paralyzing pain. Having run over 50 marathons and numerous half marathons I was devastated. Dr. Raissi was cautiously optimistic and reminded me that the road to recovery would be long and that I would walk again but that running would much further down the road. I had surgery in January of 2023 leaving with a cast and alot of pain. I set up an excel schedule to plot my recovery, watched you tube videos on managing the process, attended my follow-up appointments and was dedicated to doing everything right. My knee cart was a life saver! I actually took it around the neighborhood riding up to 4-5 miles a day. When the cast was removed, I shifted to a boot eventually progressing to a walking boot. In April of 2023, I asked Dr. Raissi if I was "ok" to travel to Antigua for vacation and he told me if I could handle the pain and take it easy it was fine. While walking hurt every step of the way, I had a great vacation. By the fall of that year I was walking 4-5 miles a day, progressed to jogging and then slow running. Since then I have run 3 marathons and a half dozen half marathons. Dr. Raissi did a tremendous job on my achilles and I cannot be more pleased with the care I was provided. He was brutally honest and realistic which is how I like to receive information. I highly recommend DOC
