Pulled Muscles

A pulled muscle, or muscle strain, occurs when a muscle is overstretched or overexerted, leading to small tears in the muscle fibers. One of the most commonly strained muscles is the hamstring, which can interfere with everyday activities such as running, walking, or jumping.

Most muscle strains can be managed at home without medical attention. Resting and avoiding intense physical activity give the muscle time to heal, while applying ice can help minimize pain and internal bleeding.

To reduce your risk of muscle strains, follow these tips:

  • Warm up properly. Begin with light activities such as jogging or playing catch to prepare your muscles. Avoid starting intense exercise with tight, cold muscles.
  • Listen to your body. Tired muscles are more prone to strains and other injuries, so listen to your body and take breaks as needed.
  • Build and maintain strength. Stronger muscles are more resistant to injury.
