Desert Orthopaedic Center Providing Telehealth and In-Office Treatment During COVID-19

Providing essential orthopaedic services while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19, Desert Orthopaedic Center offers telehealth as an approach to seeing patients with bone, joint and muscle concerns in lieu of office visits. This approach enables patients to safely visit with one of the practice’s specialty-trained providers from the comfort of their own home or office using video conference and telecommunications technology, such as a computer, tablet or smartphone. Additionally, the practice offers in-office, same-day appointments for urgent injuries while following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help ease the burden on hospitals and traditional urgent care facilities.  

“As we continue to react to the COVID-19 pandemic, the doctors at Desert Orthopaedic Center are committed to providing orthopaedic care to the community while also keeping our patients and staff safe,” says Desert Orthopaedic Center Practice President Dr. Chad Hanson. “As an essential business, we remain open, and office visits are being triaged to prioritize immediate, essential medical care needs.

“We are also excited to offer real-time telehealth as an alternative to coming to one of our four offices to comply with good public health practices as advocated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Government and the State of Nevada,” adds Dr. Hanson. “We recognize that some injuries need to be treated in person, so we are offering same-day appointments for urgent injuries to provide a care alternative to reduce the traffic in hospitals and emergency departments.”

Through telehealth, the practice’s specialty-trained experts are able to provide follow-up appointments as well as consultation and advice for most bone, joint and muscle injuries. This secure technology complies with federal health privacy laws and offers area residents high-quality orthopaedic care without risk to themselves and others. Practice doctors will speak with each patient via telephone to determine if a virtual or in-office appointment is appropriate for their needs. Patients will have the option to decline an in-office appointment; however, the doctor will make recommendations based on urgency.

For treatment and services that require in-office visits, Desert Orthopaedic Center is following CDC and local health safety guidelines. Patients will go through a screen at the practice’s offices and access a virtual waiting room before their appointment to minimize contact with others.
